where at least I know I'm free....."
Regardless of who you voted for, history was made. That is something to be proud of. I'm proud to be an American.
From John McCain's speech:
"And I call on all Americans, as I have often in this campaign, to not despair of our present difficulties, but to believe, always, in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here. Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history."
From Obama's victory speech last night:
"It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America."
I wanted to write more on the this blog about how I've been feeling regarding the election and the state of our union and just never could quite come up with the right words. My friend Kami and her husband James are among some of the most brilliant people I know. This is an excerpt from Kami's blog that is exactly what I wanted to say.
"I've been scared in my country for at least the last 5 years. I hope and pray that this is the change we need, and I'm not the only one. Over 62 million people also had that same idea. He wasn't elected BECAUSE he's black, he wasn't elected because he's a socialist (which he's not), he wasn't elected because we're all stupid, he was elected because people want change, they want hope...hope that it will get better. Can he do it? hopefully. I pray that WE can. Americans. It involves all of us, believing and working towards the same cause: Making this country as great as we know it can be. "

I agree totally. It's a nice feeling to be extra proud of our country today.
